This is the largest fast-food chain and was started in California in 1940 by the brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. This chain serves wraps, rolls, burgers along with desserts and milkshakes. It has one of its own outlets for breakfast called McCafe. It has got more than 36,000 outlets in 119 countries and continues to expand the franchise making it the leading fast-food chain in the world. It serves approximately 68 million customers daily.
Strikes a chord with the coffee-philes, doesn’t it? This food chain is the largest in the world as far as coffee is concerned. It was founded by three friends as a start-up to serve high-quality coffee at Seattle in 1971. Since then Starbucks has been expanding its branches and attracting coffee lovers all over. Spreading across 72 countries, it also serves sandwiches, pastries, etc. The Frappuccino and the Fizzio are few of the specialties of the Starbucks.
#3 Dunkin’ Donuts
This one, which is a favourite of people with a sweet tooth, is one of the biggest fast-food chains. Founded by William Rosenberg in 1950, it not only serves donuts but also a wide variety of baked foods like bagels, burgers and munchkins. The coffee it serves is comparable to Starbucks and with an added plus of lower prices. The specialty of this place, is of course, donuts from all over the world. The servings are very attractive and mouth-watering. The chain expands up to 11,000 restaurants in 33 countries.
Started in 1930 by Colonel Sanders, the Kentucky Fried Chicken is the second largest food chain after McD. Fried chicken is its specialty but apart from that, the other finger-lickin’ goods are burgers, milkshakes, rice bowls, etc. How these delicious snacks are made remains a well-kept secret so far. Though the secret of the “11 herbs and spices” have been tampered with now and then, it hasn’t lost its prominence yet.
#5 Pizza Hut
This American restaurant and international franchise was founded in the year 1958 by Dan and Frank Carney in the city of Kansas. In 2001, this became the first ever company to deliver pizza to the International Space Station. It has about 11,139 restaurants worldwide, with US alone having 6000 of them. The notable sales were made by the “stuffed-crust” pizza. It varies its base according to regional preferences for maximum sales and never holds back from experimenting with new products, makin’ it great!

Started in 1954 in Miami, Florida by two hotel administration graduates, this hamburger fast food chain has gained popularity worldwide. With its main competition being only the McDonald’s, it has spread across 95 countries with 13,667 restaurants. The specialty of this place is the Whopper’s burger which is stuffed with mayonnaise, lettuce and flame-grilled beef and tomatoes. Along with delicious burgers, they serve cokes, shakes, salads, wings and fries.

Doesn’t just serve dairy products, but also a wide variety of fast-foods such as burgers, sandwiches, ice-creams, hot-dogs, salads, etc. It was founded by Noble and McCullough in 1940 in Illinois. Its main attraction is the Blizzard frozen treat. It is a blend of mix-in ingredients with sundae toppings with cookies, brownies and chocolate chips on the top. They have around 5,700 restaurants globally in 30 countries.
#8 Domino’s Pizza
This leading pizza chain serves not only pizzas but a few Italian-American cuisines as well, giving a really good competition to Pizza Hut. It has its 11,000 outlets in around 70 countries. Its 30 minutes home-delivery service helped it gain a really good PR response. It started with just serving pizza with 11 toppings and Coco-Cola for soft-drinks but now serves pizza and dishes with regional preferences. The first pizza ever was a debut dish of Domino’s in the year 1989.
#9 Papa John’s Pizza
This is the take-out delivery service of pizza and consists the third largest pizza delivery service. It was founded by “Papa” John Schnatter who started selling pizzas to the customers that came to father’s taverns. Then, it became so popular that he got a place adjacent to it. Since then it has expanded its service and now Papa John’s has over 4,700 establishments around the world, including around 3,500 in the U.S. and over 1,200 spread amongst 37 other countries and territories.
Owned and operated by Doctor’s Associates, Inc., it is one of the fastest growing fast-food branches today. It sells mainly submarine sandwiches and salads. It has 44,882 restaurants in 112 countries, serving sandwiches with meats according to the regional preferences of different places. This chain has also introduced gluten-free bread and brownies. It has also opened an all-vegetarian outlet to sync with the religious sentiments and food preferences of people.
#11 Taco bell
This American chain of fast-food restaurants serves tacos, nachos, quesadillas, burritos, and a variety of other Tex-Mex foods. It has a chain of around 7,000 restaurants. It was founded by Glen Bell in California only when he was 23 but first as a hot-dog stand called Bell’s Drive. Eventually, Taco Bell was opened and then gradually that led to a Taco Bell Express with limited menus to attract volumes. It serves more than 2 million customers every year.
